Bacula - Backing up SQLServer
[en] Tech 2007-02-23
Backing-up SQL-Server is not a trivial thing. Since SQL-Server's own backup system is really too flaky for backup purposes. It uses the SQL Server agent  which has the feature that of one job fails to terminate, none of the following jobs gets executed. Really nice when the next jobs create the backups *sigh*. When will Microsoft get it, this is no longer the '80s!.

The resulting backups are, in true microsoft fashion, just binary blobs of the database, nothing human readable in that. In fact, you can't even restore a backup in a machine that has a different physical disk layout (!!!). Remember kids, once you give data to Microsoft it is designed to give you maximum problems when you want to take it back out.

Anyway to make Bacula backup this overgrown toy database system. the following is useful.

The new site is still missing various parts and using the old nucleus as a back-end, but hé, it's up and running.

Switching blog software.

First of all: Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Gelukkig Kerstfeest.

Now with that out of the way: Since I pretend to know something about computers. It is an insult that my personal Blog run's someone else's software (nucleus at this moment). If it was for being easy to maintain, I just should stop whining and just use Blogger,

Hypertext Style: Cool URIs don't change.
[en] Tech c1, 2006-09-04
Interesting (and important) document from W3. Let's all sit down and think about URLs before setting on one or other convension. A company/organizacion has complete control over how it handles it's URLs. Then why are there so many broken URLs?

"What makes a cool URI?
A cool URI is one which does not change.
What sorts of URI change?
URIs don't change: people change them.

There are no reasons at all in theory for people to change URIs (or stop maintaining documents), but millions of reasons in practice."

Hypertext Style: Cool URIs don't change.
